You’re in Cairo, Egypt, done the whole tourist thing. Traveled by camel to see the pyramids by day and were awestruck. But you haven’t seen anything yet. At night the Pyramids are a different monster. The Sound and Light Show offers the traveler a different perspective on the ancient ruins with a modern twist – illuminating the enigmatic structures.

The Sound and Light Show offers the event in several languages in different times. Be sure to schedule the show in your native tongue.

The Sound and Light Show is a voice recorded commentary which tells the story of the Egyptians.  The voice over is accompanied by illustrated still images (photos and illustrations) projected on the wall of the temple.  At certain points during the narrative, the pyramids are illuminated with a floodlight of color.  Music is played in the backdrop.  But unfortunately there is no live music.

The animation begins when the Sphinx speaks, which is probably the most impressive part of the show.  Cleverly projected, the face of the Sphinx awakens as you listen to the words of a deceased Pharaoh.

To bear witness to the show, you have the choice of theater type seating, or a seat in the cafe at the rear of the area.  The cafe is recommended (although you will not be able to see as good); at some points, the show seems to drag and you will be able to entertain yourself with booze.  If you choose the theater seating, get there early for the best seats at the very front.

The desert is cold! Very cold, even after the hot days of Egypt. Bring a blanket: it’s great cuddling time with your significant other…or just remember to bring a sweater or extra shirts when going to the Sound and Light show.
